Taking Good Care of Your Eyes
Niall O'Kane Optometrists offer a number of different eye tests to suit your personal requirements:
Ocular Health Examination
Junior Ocular Health Examination (for children and young adults under 16)
NHS Sight Tests
Ocular Health Examination
The Ocular Health Examination is our most comprehensive eye test, utilising modern technology to thoroughly check the health of your eyes and provide you with a permanent record, allowing you to compare your results with previous tests. We recommend you repeat the test at least once every two years to ensure greater accuracy and detect any potential issues as early as possible
The examination features six separate parts; an overview assessment of your eye health, a visual assessment, pressure test and visual field analysis, retinal photography and EyeCap fundus photography of your eye, topped off with a discussion of findings. This full, in-depth examination enables us to be able to discover over 200 health conditions as early as possible, such as:
Glaucoma
Cataracts
Diabetes
High Blood Pressure
Retinal Detachment
Age-Related Conditions
Neurological Conditions
Full, in-depth information on the tests we perform, alongside example photos, can be found here.
Junior Ocular Health Examination
Our Junior Ocular Health Examination features some of the most advanced technology available today, to meet and exceed your child's visual needs. By running our comprehensive eye health check, we are able to detect conditions such as:
Diabetes
Squints
Lazy Eyes
Colour Vision Problems
We recommend children have their eyes tested before the age of three; the earlier, the better. It does not matter if your child is too young to talk or read, we use a range of techniques and technology to detect sight problems at an early age. NHS (GOS3) forms are accepted from other practices towards the cost of optical help for young adults under the age of 16.
We also offer colour overlays, either as sheets of plastic laid over text or as coloured plastic lenses used in spectacle frames, which are used to help some children read. It is thought that overlays reduce distortion of the print, and enables some children to read text more fluently with less discomfort and fewer headaches. Contact lenses may also be available for your child, as a safe, realistic alternative to glasses. Full, in-depth information on the tests we perform as part of the Junior Ocular Health Examination, alongside example photos, can be found here.
NHS Sight Tests
Although we specialise in more advanced eye care examinations, we also welcome NHS patients who are eligible for a pre-paid sight test. The NHS web site has full eligiblity criteria for the 'free' sight test service; please click here to see the NHS' detailed information. If you wish to upgrade and have the full Ocular Health Examination, we are able to deduct the cost of the NHS Sight Test fee, meaning you just pay the difference; please contact us if you wish to find out more.
Contact Lens Ocular Health Examination
Our Contact Lens Ocular Health Examination ensures we provide you with the very best in contact lens care, consisting of:
Sight Test - allowing us to check your prescription to give you the best possible vision
Contact Lens Suitability Check - to make sure your contact lenses are the best for you
Digital Photo of Your Eyes - giving a permanent record of your eye health
Fluorescein Dye Test - to check that your eyes are not scratched, worn or dry
It is important that we check your eyes regularly, so that any issues are detected early and dealt with effectively. We aim for happy, comfortable eyes, and your peace of mind.
